Reima Al-Jarf has taught ESL, ESP and translation for 26 years. She has published 6 books, 160 book chapters, encyclopedia and journals articles in peer-reviewed international and national journals and conference proceedings. She has given 295 conference presentations and 40 workshops in 60 countries. She has been presenting at TCC since 2007 (16 presentations). She is a member of 22 international and national professional organizations. She reviews articles for numerous peer-reviewed international journals including some ISI journals. She has won 3 Excellence in Teaching Awards and the Best Faculty Website Award at King Saud University, College of Languages and Translation, Department and two women campuses.

Kumiko AOKI, Ph.D.
The Open University of Japan
I graduated from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa with Ph.D. in Communication and Information Sciences in 1995. Since then, I taught at the Department of Information Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the College of Communication, Boston University. I went back to my home country, Japan, in January 2004. Since then, I was Associate Professor, the National Institute of Multimedia Education (NIME), until 2009 and then Professor of Informatics, the Open University of Japan. I’m also Professor, the Center of Open and Distance Education (CODE) where I research and develop online education and e-learning. My current research interests include online education and competency-based education.

Danilo M. BAYLEN
Professor of Instructional Technology, University of West Georgia
Danilo M. Baylen is a Professor of Instructional Technology at the University of West Georgia. He received his graduate degrees in Instructional Technology, Library and Information Studies, Elementary Education, and Counseling. Prior to joining the UWG faculty, he was an instructional designer and assistant professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, director of Instructional Technology Services at the University of Akron, and coordinator of the Center for Instructional Design and Development at the Ohio State University Mansfield. He has published articles, book chapters and papers, and presented on technology integration practices, online teaching and learning, and faculty development. He just co-edited a book, Essentials of Teaching and Integrating Visual and Media Literacy – Visualizing Learning, that will be published by Springer in spring 2015.

Marla CARTWRIGHT
Faculty Developer, Kaplan University
Marla Cartwright, M.A., English, is a Faculty Developer with Kaplan University’s Center for Teaching and Learning. She has been teaching at the college level for over 16 years, serving over a decade at KU, receiving the 2006 Vice President’s award and the 2013 Kaplan Way Leadership Award. Marla also has a background in publishing including general assignment reporter for the metro daily newspaper, The Nashville Banner, regional magazines as well as the book "Deny All Knowledge: Reading the X-Files". Her 20+ years of online experience stems from serving as a Community Producer and Community Manager at the Manhattan-based internet company, iVillage.com.

In addition to interests in teaching, faculty development and research, Marla also has a life-long interest in science fiction and horror, particularly in film and television analysis. Her presentations in this area include: "Iron John" Locke: The Mythological Implications of Lost, “Country Boy Can Survive”: Saving Sawyer of the TV show “Lost” and she combined an analysis of mythology and traditional folk tales in the essay, "You Don’t Know ‘Jack’: Literary Analysis of the Heroes of ’24’ and ‘Lost’" which she also published as a journal article. Most recently, Marla has been studying various character development arcs from The Walking Dead, resulting in the presentation: From Redneck to White Knight: The Heroic Development of Daryl Dixon in "The Walking Dead".

Dr. Bert Kimura is a lecturer at the University of Hawaii, College of Education, Educational Technology Department. He also teaches at Kansai University in Osaka, Japan. He is actively engaged in research on ubiquitous learning technologies, electronic portfolios, and Internet based communication tools.

Recently, Dr. Kimura was a professor in the International Center at Osaka Gakuin University in Japan. He taught oral communications and special topics classes in English to native Japanese speakers. He also served as a consultant in educational technology and e-learning.

Dr. Kimura coordinates the TCC Online Conference, a worldwide online conference for 1,400 professors, librarians, information technology support specialists, administrators and student services personnel. This conference, conducted annually entirely online, highlights issues, challenges, directions and the use of the Internet in online learning, as well as in “hybrid” face-to-face classes (http://tcc.kcc.hawaii.edu).

Dr. Kimura is Emeritus Professor at the University of Hawai’i, Kapi’olani Community College (KCC) where he served as chair of the Information, Media & Technology Services (IMTS) department. Currently, he also serves as a Faculty Consultant & Lecturer for the Educational Technology Department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Education. At KCC, he previously coordinated KITE, Kapiolani’s Information Technology Emphasis, a campus-wide initiative to integrate information technology across the curriculum. He is a past president of the Hawai’i 4-H Alumni Association, a group affiliated with the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources.

IMTS provided campus-wide technical support and services to faculty and staff to enhance and improve the quality of student learning. IMTS staff provided a wide range of services including printing and duplication, computer and audiovisual equipment repair, distance learning, instructional development, academic computing, data network and telecom management, server administration, and technology workshops for faculty and staff.

Dr. Kimura served as campus representative to WCET, the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications, and CCUMC, the Consortium of College and University Media Centers. He served on the League for Innovation’s Microsoft/Compaq Community College Advisory Council.

Dr. Kimura has also worked closely with Hawaii’s teachers and secondary schools. He served as advisory board member and higher education partner with the Aiea High School complex in the School-to-Work Opportunities initiative and as advisory board member for Moanalua High School’s Media Communications Learning Center.
